Two arrested over theft of €120,000 worth of official CD Tenerife merchandise
The Guardia Civil has arrested two people, including an employee of football club CD Tenerife, as part of an investigation into the theft of thousands of official team garments. A third person is also under investigation but has not been detained, authorities confirmed yesterday, Thursday.
The arrests come under the framework of Operation “TAMARCO”, which uncovered a scheme involving the misappropriation and illegal resale of over 3,000 pieces of official club merchandise.
Stolen Kit Sold in Underground Shops
According to the Guardia Civil, the suspects allegedly stole official CD Tenerife merchandise, received directly from the club’s official supplier, and sold it in unauthorised retail outlets unconnected to the club.
The investigation began after CD Tenerife executives filed a complaint, suspecting internal misconduct relating to the handling of the club’s official gear. The club alerted the Guardia Civil to irregularities following deliveries from its kit supplier.
Agents from the Judicial Police Unit (UOPJ) launched an inquiry, which revealed that diverted merchandise was being stored and sold illegally from premises in La Laguna.
A search of the premises uncovered a total of 3,480 items, all bearing CD Tenerife branding, with an estimated value exceeding €120,000. The Guardia Civil is still investigating how long the operation has been running and the total amount defrauded.
Ongoing Investigation
The operation is being carried out under the direction of the relevant judicial authority and the Provincial Prosecutor’s Office.
The two suspects were brought before the judicial authorities along with the corresponding case files. The third individual under investigation has not been detained at this time.
