Two Local Police officers help deliver a baby in public in La Camella

Two Local Police officers and two paramedics assisted in the birth of a baby yesterday (Thursday 20th February) in the public recreational area of La Camella in the municipality of Arona in the south of Tenerife.

The incident unfolded when the Emergency Services Coordination Centre (CECOES) received an urgent call at 12:35pm informing them of an impending birth in a public place after the pregnant woman went into unexpected labour.

Responding swiftly, the police officers and emergency medical technicians arrived at the scene to provide urgent assistance to the mother who was too far into the birth to move to hospital, so a decision was made to deliver the baby there and then.

Fortunately, everything went smoothly and, after a successful delivery, both the mother and her newborn were taken to the Hospital del Sur down the road in El Mojon, where they were admitted in good health for routine observation.

The authorities have praised the quick response of emergency personnel, highlighting their professionalism and efficiency in handling this unexpected yet joyful event.
