Tragic death of elderly man at popular beach in Costa Adeje
An elderly man has sadly died after being pulled from the sea in a state of cardiorespiratory arrest at Playa del Bobo in Costa Adeje, south Tenerife. The incident occurred at approximately 1:55pm yesterday, Saturday, when emergency services were alerted that a man had been rescued from the water and was unresponsive.
The Canary Islands Emergency Services Coordination Centre (CECOES) immediately dispatched medical teams, including a medicalised ambulance and a basic life support unit from the Canary Emergency Service (SUC).
A doctor and nurse from the local health centre also attended the scene. Despite prolonged resuscitation efforts by both SUC personnel and local health professionals, the man, believed to be around 70 years old, was sadly pronounced dead on the beach.
Both the Local Police and the National Police were present at the scene and have initiated the appropriate legal proceedings to investigate the circumstances of the incident. The identity of the deceased has not yet been released, and it remains unclear whether he was a local resident or a visitor to the island.
Playa del Bobo, where the incident took place, is one of Costa Adeje’s quieter and more relaxed beaches. Nestled between two breakwaters, it offers calm waters ideal for swimming, making it a popular spot for families and those seeking a peaceful seaside experience.

This tragic incident is a sobering reminder of the potential risks associated with open water, even in seemingly safe environments. Authorities are urging beachgoers to remain vigilant while swimming and to alert lifeguards or emergency services at the first sign of trouble.
