A man and a woman, both aged 63 years old, were rescued from the sea yesterday after they allegedly fell into the water whilst walking by the Puerto Deportivo in Los Gigantes on the west coast of Tenerife.
According to the Emergency Services report, they received an alert at 12.04pm informing them of two people in the water and dispatched the necessary resources to help them.
A rescue boat retrieved them from the water and took them to the dock where medical staff from the Puerto Santiago and Alcalá health centres were waiting to assess and treat them, and they, unfortunately, confirmed that the woman was dead from drowning and that the man was suffering from a severe chest injury.
The injured man was taken by ambulance to Hospiten Sur hospital in Playa Las Americas for further treatment, and the Guardia Civil took charge of the deceased until the arrival of the judicial authority.
An investigation has been opened to determine the cause of the accident.
