Thug robs an 80-year-old woman in Costa Adeje and drives off with her on the bonnet of his car

The National Police arrested a 32-year-old man in the south of Tenerife yesterday (Wednesday), who allegedly stole the bag of an 80-year-old woman at the weekend, whom he dragged onto the bonnet of the car and drove off with her still on it until he crashed into a taxi in Costa Adeje.

In an official press release, the police report that the woman is a German tourist who was walking down a street with her husband when the man approached and aggressively tried to snatch her bag.

Not backing down, the elderly woman held on to it to try and stop him, so he dragged her onto the bonnet of his car and drove off with her clinging on for dear life until the driver was able to get her off.

However, before doing so he collided with a taxi that was trying to help the woman, and when it came to a standstill, he ran off and fled the scene. Medical personnel attended to the woman’s injuries before taking her to Hospiten Sur for further treatment, and she is still in hospital but in a stable condition.

On learning about the facts from witnesses, and having the car which the thief left at the side of the road, officers took the necessary steps to identify and arrest the alleged perpetrator of the actions.

When they located the owner of the car, who already has a police record, he claimed it wasn’t him and that his car has been stolen, apparently with the intention of hindering police action. He was arrested yesterday by the National Police in Arona after being identified by witnesses and was brought before the judicial authority.
