Three people were injured yesterday morning (Sunday) following a head-on collision between a minibus and a car on the LZ-2 road near Mácher in Lanzarote.

According to the island’s Emergency Consortium, the crash happened at around 8:30am. Local Police from Tías closed the road to traffic to allow emergency services to reach the area quickly and deal with the incident safely.

When firefighters arrived, the driver of the minibus and one of the people in the car had already managed to get out of their vehicles and were receiving treatment from paramedics.

However, the second person in the car was trapped inside in the front passenger seat. Firefighters made sure the vehicle was safe before carefully securing them to avoid further injury.

Medical staff fitted the casualty with a cervical collar and placed them onto a rescue board. Firefighters then removed the vehicle’s rear seats and forced open the boot using specialist equipment in order to extract the injured person through the back of the car.

All three casualties were treated by paramedics at the scene before being transferred for further medical care.

Once tow trucks had removed the damaged vehicles, firefighters cleaned the road surface after an oil spill, using absorbent material to make the area safe for traffic again.
