Thief caught burgling an apartment is held by holidaymakers until Police arrive

Agents of the Guardia Civil have arrested a 47-year-old man, whom the three guests of a holiday home in Palm Mar in the south of Tenerife surprised when he was inside stealing several electronic devices.

According to the police report, a Spanish neighbour called the police and they held the alleged thief until officers got there.

Having been caught red-handed, the Guardia agents arrested him and he has been placed at the disposal of the Arona court of instruction with the relevant report.

In a statement, the Guardia Civil has made some recommendations as the crime rate has increased since the pandemic. They advise you to check that doors and windows are properly closed, not to leave keys hidden in the mailbox, under flower pots or in the metre box, and to avoid sleeping with the windows open if you do not have security gates.

Likewise, they advise not to leave money, jewellery or valuable objects in the house, nor objects of a certain value out on open terraces, and to write down or take a photo of serial numbers on electronic devices so they can be traced.

In the case of detecting marks on the doors or windows, or unusual noises in unoccupied houses, they request that the security forces be notified immediately.

Lastly, please take note of any suspicious actions or vehicles and write down the data of the vehicles and/or people that are loitering around the street or properties.
