A video has gone viral after doing the rounds on social media, which shows a car trying to board a ferry after it has pulled away from the dock and subsequently falling into the water after sliding off the access ramp. The text with it says that it happened in the port of Los Cristianos, and what's more, they insist that “it was yesterday”.
However, neither of these facts are true. The sad truth behind the incident is that both the location and date are wrong, as the recording is from 2014 when the car tried to board a ferry at the Sirkeci pier in Istanbul (Turkey).
The incident did happen, and yes the car did fall into the water, but tragically a 5-year-old girl, her mother, and two other women drowned in the incident, as they couldn’t be rescued from the car which quickly sunk as it was dragged underwater due to the swell and wake created by the ferry’s propellers.
For these reasons we are choosing not to post the video on this article, and ask you not to believe everything you see on social media.
