The south stays dry as the rest of Tenerife is hit by heavy rains

Last night (Monday) and earlier today, the western islands were hit by rain, thunder and lightning. The most recorded rainfall was in La Palma and Tenerife, where Arico had 86 litres per square metre, followed by San Andrés y Sauces in La Palma, with 54.6 litres.

In La Laguna and in Llano de los Loros, 29.4 litres per square metre were recorded, and rains of 15.8 litres per square metre were recorded at La Palma airport but didn’t cause any disruptions.

For its part, in the Vallehermoso area of La Gomera, Alto Igualero, up to 11.8 litres have been recorded in the last 24 hours, the authorities have asked for caution on the roads due to continued rains, wind, and rock falls.

Many people were caught by surprise by this downpour despite the fact that the State Meteorological Agency (AEMET) had already warned of it, and some rain with strong gusts of wind, but with warm temperatures are forecast for the rest of the week throughout the Archipelago.

On this occasion, the main tourist areas in the south of Tenerife avoided the rain and had a sunny day with some clouds and light winds.
