September is one of the best months to enjoy the Canary Islands without the hustle and bustle of peak summer. With enviable weather, warm seas, and lower prices compared to high season, the archipelago becomes a dream destination.
And if there is one beach that stands out for its unique atmosphere and perfect mix of relaxation and fun, it’s Playa del Inglés in Gran Canaria.
Across the Canary Islands, there are around 670 beaches ranging from volcanic coves to wide golden sands. Tenerife tops the list with 168, followed by Gran Canaria with 134, Lanzarote with 122, and Fuerteventura with 67 beaches of fine sand. Meanwhile, La Palma, La Gomera, and El Hierro offer quieter, more unspoiled spots.
September, the ideal month
For many, early autumn is the best time to visit the islands. The heat of summer softens, the sea remains warm, and the crowds thin out, creating the perfect conditions for a peaceful escape. Accommodation and flight prices also tend to be more competitive, making it easier to enjoy quality holidays at better value.
Sunny days are complemented by mild evenings, ideal for strolling along seafront promenades or enjoying a relaxed meal outdoors.
Playa del Inglés: a classic choice
Stretching almost three kilometres along the south coast of Gran Canaria, Playa del Inglés offers golden sands, calm waters, and a spectacular backdrop provided by the Maspalomas Dunes Nature Reserve.
Here you’ll find something for everyone: family-friendly areas, beach volleyball and football zones, and quieter corners for those looking to switch off completely. Its southern location also guarantees sunshine almost every day of the year.
Services and comforts
The beach is well-equipped with sunbed and parasol rentals, showers, toilets, beach bars, and a lively promenade lined with restaurants, shops, and supermarkets. Parking is available nearby, and it’s also easily accessible by public transport.
Towards Punta de Maspalomas, the beach becomes wilder, attracting surfers and naturists, adding to its cosmopolitan and diverse atmosphere.
A complete experience
At 2.7 kilometres long, Playa del Inglés is perfect for long walks by the ocean. With its mix of comfort, safety, and natural beauty, it remains one of the top choices for both tourists and locals in September.
Beyond sun and sand, visitors can enjoy local gastronomy, vibrant nightlife, and a wide range of outdoor activities, making it much more than just a beach day — it’s a complete holiday experience.
