The new series of Night Manager starts filming in Tenerife

Tenerife has once again become a top location for international cinema and television as filming begins on the island for the highly anticipated new series of The Night Manager starring Tom Hiddleston and Hugh Laurie.

Getting more and more known for its unique settings, Tenerife has been chosen as the backdrop for Amazon Prime and BBC’s revival of the acclaimed series.

This week, a popular ‘guachinche’ restaurant, Como en Casa in La Laguna, announced its temporary closure via social media, revealing that it is hosting the production team for the series. The filming has generated a buzz across the island, especially after sightings of Hugh Laurie, famous for his role in House, near Los Rodeos Airport last week.

Based on John le Carré’s iconic novel, The Night Manager, filmed in Majorca, debuted in 2016 to widespread acclaim, winning numerous prestigious awards, including BAFTAs, Emmys, and Golden Globes. Tom Hiddleston, who stars as Jonathan Pine, also earned a Golden Globe for his performance in the first series, which captivated millions worldwide.

Now, the story returns with two new seasons, directed by BAFTA-winning filmmaker Georgi Banks-Davies (I Hate Suzie), who takes over from Susanne Bier. David Farr continues as the series’ screenwriter, with Stephen Garrett serving as showrunner.

The new seasons will once again follow the intrigue-filled life of Jonathan Pine, a luxury hotel manager turned undercover agent. Details about the plot of the upcoming episodes and the full cast list remain under wraps. However, the series’ blend of espionage, luxury, and high-stakes drama has fans eagerly awaiting its return.

Filming in Tenerife has added a new dimension of authenticity to the production, with local landmarks like the guachinche providing a unique setting. Guachinches, traditional Canarian eateries known for their home-cooked meals and wine, are an unexpected yet charming addition to the espionage thriller’s universe.

Fans are particularly excited about the involvement of international stars like Tom Hiddleston and the possible return of cast members Olivia Colman, Tom Hollander, and Elizabeth Debicki, who played pivotal roles in the first season.
