The iconic Black Pearl has arrived at the port of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, captivating onlookers with its grandeur. This ultra-modern sailing yacht, often considered one of the most spectacular in the world, is a masterpiece of luxury, technology, and sustainability.
Owned by the late Russian entrepreneur Oleg Burlakov, the Black Pearl was launched in 2016 and spans an impressive 106 metres. Designed with cutting-edge sustainable technology, it features three revolutionary DynaRig masts that support 2,900 square metres of sails, enabling remarkable energy efficiency.
The Black Pearl has accommodation for up to 12 guests in opulent suites, including VIP and double cabins. Onboard amenities include a deck jacuzzi, a convertible cinema, a beach club, and a garage for auxiliary vessels. The yacht boasts a top speed of 30 knots under ideal conditions and diesel engines capable of cruising at 17.5 knots.
Its steel hull, aluminium superstructure, and carbon-fibre masts are optimised for transatlantic voyages, using minimal fuel. A variable-pitch propeller generates electricity while sailing, further reducing environmental impact.
A Legacy in Dispute
The Black Pearl is the legacy of Oleg Burlakov, who amassed a £3 billion fortune after the collapse of the USSR. Burlakov’s mysterious death in 2021 left his fortune embroiled in legal disputes among heirs, adding intrigue to the yacht’s story.
Inspired by the Maltese Falcon, the Black Pearl was developed over eight years at the renowned Oceanco shipyards in Rotterdam, and cost over $200 million. Completed in 2018, it quickly garnered accolades, including the 2019 Sailing Superyacht of the Year award. Today, it stands as a testament to nautical innovation and sustainable engineering.
