The Guardia Civil have arrested the coach of a football team based in the south of Tenerife, for allegedly defrauding players' parents out of 3,695 euros, to supposedly register the team in a tournament in the north of the island in July, which he failed to do.
According to investigators of the Main Post of Granadilla, the detainee, a 37-year-old man who lives in Arona, had promised to take their children to the tournament in July and asked them for money to register the team so that they could participate.
However, even though the parents had paid over 300 euros for each player to go, the trip never materialised and they discovered that the team hadn’t been registered.
Following this, eleven sets of parents all made formal complaints to the Guardia Civil, who confirmed that the money requested by the coach had not been used for the promised purpose.
Consequently, they located and arrested him for fraud, and handed over the file to the Granadilla courts for trial and sentencing.
