The TF-42 road in Garachico has reopened to traffic after being closed due to a landslide caused by heavy rain from Storm Therese. The incident involved the collapse of a retaining wall from a terraced hillside, which sent rocks tumbling onto the road and created a serious safety risk.

road crews from the Tenerife Cabildo have worked continuously from early Friday morning to make the area safe, clearing loose rocks and stabilising the slope to prevent further debris from falling onto the road.

The island’s councillor for roads, Dámaso Arteaga, highlighted the effort made to reopen the route as quickly as possible, and thanked José Heriberto González Rodríguez, along with local council staff and the Local Police, for their support during the incident.

The Guardia Civil Traffic Department also played an important role in managing the situation and ensuring safety while the road was closed.

Officials described the operation as complex, given the unexpected nature of the landslide and the risks involved.

The reopening of the TF-42 restores an important transport link in the north of Tenerife, allowing traffic to return to normal and improving safety for drivers in the area.
