The Masca trail is closed on Sunday due to high temperatures

The Minister of the Natural Environment and Security at the Tenerife Cabildo, Isabel García, has informed that the route of the Barranco de Masca will be closed on Sunday for health and security reasons, due to the weather warning for high temperatures which could exceed 36 degrees, according to AEMET forecasts.

The Cabildo is following protocol and will activate Grade 1 measures for the prevention of forest fires from Sunday morning at 7:30am due to the alert decreed by the General Directorate of Security and Emergencies of the Canary Islands Government.

This means that, while the alert is in force, the cultural use of fire (prescribed agricultural and forest burning, stubble, scrub, waste, etc) and recreational use (barbecues, bonfires, campfires and gas stoves, among others) are prohibited, as is the use of machinery that can cause sparks, and fireworks are not permitted in risk areas.

They also recommend extreme precautions with any activity that could generate fire, including smoking and the disposal of cigarette butts.

The Forest Management Technical Service have been put on alert and are ordered to establish the necessary devices to attend to the risk situation.
