There was a bizarre turn of events this week in the south of Tenerife, after Leeds based radio personality Rob DJ, renowned for “Rob DJ’s Monday Night Quiz on UK station Radio X, decided to go for a drink in The Vault Bar on the El Mirador strip in Los Cristianos.
On Tuesday night after discovering the bars “Cheers for Beers” feature, where customers can tell their friends their table number and receive drinks remotely, Rob shared his table number with his 62,000 Twitter followers. Chaos ensued and he was soon inundated with drinks from his friends and followers.
Robs friend and colleague, Chris Moyles, soon noticed what was happening and spent the next morning featuring Rob's antics on his breakfast show: “The Chris Moyles Show” which boasts over 1.1 million listeners.
Moyles said “The Vault Bar in Tenerife have bypassed the coincidence of being able to buy someone a drink” and then detailed Rob DJs marathon drinking session and read out every part of The Vault Bars menu, spending over half an hour talking about them and catapulting them into the limelight. Moyles then challenged his colleague to return and do it all over again that night, encouraging listeners to get the drinks in!
Rob duly obliged and on Wednesday hit the “cheers for beers” again, even going live on Instagram with Chris Moyles himself, while local band Blackhole played rock hits behind them.
Two of The Vaults co-owners, John Parkes and Jadene Littlejohn, were lucky enough to chat with Moyles via Rob DJs live stream, where they thanked him for the exposure he had given to both the bar and Tenerife as a whole.
“We woke up on Wednesday morning to a barrage of texts from our UK-based friends telling us our bar is on the radio, it was totally surreal to have one of the biggest radio DJs reading out our website and chatting about our bar,” said Littlejohn.
Fellow co-owner Greg Newall, also of Lucky 7’s fame, said “what an incredible turn of events, we were so lucky to be featured and owe Rob DJ and Chris Moyles a massive thank you.”
The Vault Bar is open daily from 10am to 2am and is located near the Mongolian BBQ on the El Mirador strip in Los Cristianos. They have live bands nightly and will be flying The Beautiful Couch (House Martins / Beautiful South tribute band) over to the island at the end of November to perform at the bar, where you too, can get friends and family to buy you a drink with ‘Cheers for the Beers’.
