Christmas is getting ready to light up Tenerife once again, as town halls and shopping centres across the island confirm the dates for their festive switch-ons. Many displays will debut new designs, themed decorations and special opening events, for one of the most eagerly awaited moments of the year. Throughout November, December and January, the lights will form part of packed cultural programmes, markets and family-friendly activities that help bring life and shoppers into town centres.

In Santa Cruz, the official switch-on takes place on 20th November at 7:30 pm, with more than 4.5 million LED lights spread across over 400 locations. This year’s installation includes more than 2,000 illuminated ornaments, 119 arches, 92 kilometres of garlands and 86 ground displays, with an investment of €900,000. Key access routes and commercial areas have been given extra attention to create a warm and festive welcome throughout the capital.

In La Laguna, the lights will shine for the first time on Friday, 28th November, just ahead of the city’s hugely popular Noche en Blanco the following night. Inspired by astronomy and nature, the 2025 decorations are designed to complement the historic atmosphere of the UNESCO-listed old town. More than 6 million lights and 3,500 decorative elements will brighten streets, plazas and heritage sites across the city.

Shopping centres are also embracing the season. El Trompo in La Orotava was among the first to switch on, doing so on 6th November with a festive gala, while Meridiano in Santa Cruz will hold its event on 24th November at 6:30 pm, complete with a live Christmas Rock concert on the rooftop terrace.

Across the rest of the island, several municipalities have confirmed their dates:
• Los Realejos: 21st November
• Candelaria: 21st November from 5:30 pm, including lights along La Arena, Avenida Marítima and several squares, plus live music, entertainment and a tapas-and-wine fair
• La Orotava: 28th November
• Puerto de la Cruz: 28th November
• Santa Úrsula: 30th November
• Guía de Isora: 30th November

One of the island’s most beloved Christmas traditions also returns: the Casa de la Navidad in Valle Guerra, inspired by classic American festive décor. Its lights will switch on 30th November at 7 pm, at Calle El Boquerón, 189. For more than 30 years, the Barroso family has transformed their home into a dazzling display that attracts visitors from across Tenerife.
