Tenerife and La Gomera set to connect with new underwater cable by December 2025

The underwater electrical supply cable linking Tenerife and La Gomera is on track to go live by December 2025. Beatriz Corredor, president of Redeia, shared this update during her visit to the Salto de Chira-Soria site in Gran Canaria earlier today.

This new cable will integrate the electrical systems of the two islands, boosting their energy connectivity.

Corredor highlighted that this project, along with other island interconnection cables, is designed to provide the Canary Islands with the same high-quality energy supply as mainland Spain.

She pointed to the successful operation of the cable between Lanzarote and Fuerteventura as a positive sign of what's to come for Tenerife and La Gomera.

In addition, Corredor noted the pioneering nature of the Gran Canaria project, which features innovative engineering and aims to be completed by 2027. This initiative is set to elevate Gran Canaria's renewable energy use from 21% to an impressive 50%.

Overall, the cable is set to enhance the quality of life for residents by providing a more stable, sustainable, and efficient energy system.
