The National Police have arrested ten people during an operation targeting the sale of counterfeit goods at a popular street market in Los Cristianos, in the south of Tenerife.

The arrests were made as part of a coordinated police operation at 14 stalls in the “Los Verdes” market. All ten suspects are accused of offences against industrial property and have been released pending further legal proceedings.

According to the National Police, the investigation began after several brand representatives filed complaints warning of the suspected illegal sale of counterfeit products at markets in the south of the island. The reports alleged that protected brand names and logos were being used without authorisation.

Following preliminary enquiries, officers identified a number of stalls that were allegedly selling fake clothing and accessories. A police operation was then launched, with inspections of multiple stalls and vehicles. The action was carried out with the support of official brand experts, who helped verify the authenticity of the items being sold.

The operation resulted in the seizure of a large quantity of clothing and accessories believed to be counterfeit, infringing the rights of several well-known international brands. Police estimate that, if the seized goods had been genuine, their total market value would have reached €1,243,560.

All ten detainees were identified as being responsible for the inspected stalls where the allegedly fake products were being sold. After appearing before a judge, all ten were released pending further proceedings and remain under investigation.

The National Police have reminded residents and visitors that members of the public can help combat illegal activity by reporting suspected crimes. Information can be provided confidentially, and anonymously if preferred, via the National Police website under the “Colabora” section.
