A 17-year-old boy is in critical condition after being rescued from the sea yesterday (Thursday) at Los Charcos de Valleseco in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, according to the Emergency Services Coordination Centre (CECOES).
The teenager showed signs of drowning and was given immediate assistance at the scene by beach lifeguards and bystanders, some of whom identified themselves as off-duty medical professionals.
Paramedics from the Canary Islands Emergency Service (SUC) took over upon arrival and, after stabilising him, transferred him by ambulance to the Hospital Universitario de Canarias.
Local police were also at the scene and secured the area and provided support to emergency crews during the rescue operation.
Authorities have not yet released further details about the boy's identity or current condition, and an investigation into the circumstances is likely to follow.
