Teenage boy investigated for sexual assault of a 7-year-old girl in South Tenerife

The Guardia Civil is investigating a 15-year-old teenage boy in the south of Tenerife for an alleged sexual assault on a 7-year-old girl in the town of Cabo Blanco, in the municipality of Arona.

The incident occurred a week ago and the investigation was opened by the Local Police after relatives of the girl reported that an acquaintance of her sister had sexually assaulted her.

The agents detained the teenager to learn his version fearing that relatives of the victim could retaliate against him.

The case has been passed to the Territorial Team of the Judicial Police of southern Tenerife, which is trying to determine exactly what happened.

After the family reported the incident, the young girl was taken to a hospital for a medical examination, which is one of the key tests that the investigators of the Guardia Civil analyze.

Since the new law of 'only yes is yes' came into force in Spain, any behaviour that violates sexual freedom, without the consent of the other person, is considered to be sexual assault, including sexual abuse.

For this reason, the teenage boy is being investigated for the generic crime of sexual assault, pending the final outcome of the investigation.

The latest Report of the Superior Prosecutor of the Canary Islands reflects that sexual crimes committed by minors in 2021 in the Canary Islands rose by 88%, which has generated a lot of concern in judicial and educational fields.
