TUESDAY WEATHER: Cloud, light rain and strong trade winds forecast in the Canary Islands
The State Meteorological Agency (AEMET) are forecasting a largely cloudy Tuesday across the Canary Islands, with light rainfall in northern areas of the mountainous islands, steady temperatures, and moderate to strong trade winds.
Cloudy to overcast skies are expected to dominate in the north of Tenerife and Gran Canaria, where light rain is likely, particularly during the first half of the day. Southern coastal areas of these islands will see variable cloud.
In Lanzarote and Fuerteventura, skies will be partly to mostly cloudy with only a low probability of occasional light showers. Temperatures across the archipelago are expected to remain largely unchanged.
Trade winds will blow from the northeast at moderate to strong levels, with occasional very strong gusts expected in higher areas and on southeast and northwest slopes of the mountainous islands. These gusts are likely to be most noticeable across the central islands during the afternoon.
Rough Seas Expected
At sea, northeast winds of force 5 to 6 are forecast, strengthening to force 7 offshore. Conditions will bring rough seas, building to very rough in some areas. A north or northwest swell of 1 to 2 metres is expected, occasionally increasing to 2 to 3 metres in coastal waters around Tenerife, La Palma, and La Gomera.

Lanzarote
Cloudy skies with a low probability of occasional light rain during the morning, becoming partly cloudy from midday onwards. Temperatures will see little change. Moderate trade winds with stronger intervals are expected, especially later in the day, when isolated very strong gusts are possible in inland areas.
General temperature range: Low of 15°C and high of 19°C.
Fuerteventura
Partly cloudy conditions, with more persistent cloud in the north and a small chance of scattered light showers during the first half of the day. Temperatures will remain stable. Moderate trade winds with stronger intervals are expected, particularly later in the day inland and south of Jandía, where locally strong gusts cannot be ruled out.
General temperature range: Low of 15°C and high of 20°C.
Gran Canaria
Cloudy skies in the north with light rain, especially in mid-altitude areas during the morning, where showers may occasionally be persistent. The south will see intervals of cloud. Temperatures will remain largely unchanged. Moderate to strong trade winds are expected with occasional very strong gusts in summit areas, on northwest and southeast slopes, and in the upper Agaete Valley. Gusts will become more frequent and intense later in the day. Light breezes are expected along the southwest coast.
General temperature range: Low of 16°C and high of 20°C.
Tenerife
Cloudy conditions in the north with light rain, particularly in the northeast during the morning, where showers may occasionally persist. Elsewhere, skies will be partly cloudy, although the west will also see more cloud cover. Temperatures will remain stable or rise slightly, with the possibility of weak frost on the highest central peaks. Moderate to strong trade winds with occasional very strong gusts are expected on the southeast slopes and far northwest, becoming stronger during the afternoon. Light coastal breezes are likely in western areas.
