TITSA to introduce double-length buses for routes from Adeje and Arona to Santa Cruz

Tenerife bus company TITSA are set to introduce 15-metre double-length buses with 110 seats on routes connecting Santa Cruz to Los Cristianos, Adeje, Los Realejos, and Candelaria in response to the high demand for service on these routes.

The announcement was made this morning (Monday) by the President of the Tenerife Cabildo, Rosa Dávila, during a press conference.

She revealed that €25 million has been allocated for the purchase of 70 double-length buses specifically for long-distance routes. These buses are expected to enter service in the first quarter of 2026. Additionally, 104 more buses will be incorporated into the fleet by April this year to meet growing passenger demands.

Record Passenger Growth

Presenting TITSA's 2024 passenger figures and public transport initiatives, Dávila highlighted a record-breaking year. Over 82 million passengers used TITSA services in 2024, an increase of nearly 40 million passengers since the introduction of free public transport. Compared to 2023, passenger numbers grew by 12 million, an 18% rise.

“This is a significant milestone, reflecting not only the impact of free public transport but also improvements in service quality,” Dávila said.

To accommodate this surge in demand, TITSA will hire 66 new drivers in 2025. Since the implementation of free transport under the leadership of the Canary Coalition (CC) at the Cabildo, TITSA has added almost 500 daily services to its schedule.

Enhanced Long-Distance Services

Eulalia García, the Cabildo’s Councillor for Mobility, noted that the newly acquired buses will focus on high-demand, long-distance routes such as lines 110, 112, 108, and 122.

The new vehicles will be hybrid models, boosting the proportion of eco-friendly buses within TITSA’s 320-strong fleet, 30% of which are already hybrid.

Santa Cruz will also see urban bus routes expanded by 46,634 kilometres this year, further enhancing connectivity across the region.

This initiative reflects the Cabildo's commitment to improving sustainable transport and addressing the growing needs of residents and visitors across the island.
