A 19-year-old surfer was rescued yesterday afternoon, Friday, after being struck by a ‘freak’ wave in a difficult-to-access area of a beach in Tenerife.
The Emergency Services Coordination Centre (CECOES) received an alert at approximately 4:45pm and dispatched the necessary resources to the beach.
According to the CECOES reports, the young man suffered moderate injuries, including an “incomplete drowning episode” and multiple contusions.
Emergency services swiftly responded, with firefighters and Local Police stabilising the injured surfer before the arrival of a GES helicopter that airlifted him to Tenerife North Airport, where medical personnel were waiting to treat him.
After initial assessment and he was transferred to the University Hospital Nuestra Señora de Candelaria for further treatment.
The rescue operation highlighted the rapid response and coordination of emergency services in Tenerife, ensuring that the injured surfer received prompt medical attention.
