Storm Nuria triggers first emergency incidents in Tenerife and Gran Canaria

The first incidents caused by Storm Nuria have been reported in the Canary Islands this Thursday morning, as strong winds continue to sweep across the archipelago.

The emergency services have confirmed landslides on roads in both Tenerife and Gran Canaria, along with the fall of a palm tree in the latter. Fortunately, no injuries have been reported.

In Tenerife, a landslide occurred on the TF-143 road in El Batán, located within the municipality of La Laguna. Meanwhile, Gran Canaria experienced a similar incident on the GC-350 road in the town of Firgas.

The Canary Islands’ Emergency Services Coordination Centre (CECOES) activated response teams in both cases to secure the affected areas.

Additionally, a palm tree fell on the Sardina del Norte road in Gáldar, Gran Canaria, due to the high winds. The authorities remain on high alert as Storm Nuria continues to bring severe weather, including powerful gusts and heavy rainfall, across the region.
