A dramatic incident unfolded on Wednesday afternoon in the Gran Canaria neighbourhood of Tamaraceite, where a stolen vehicle collided head-on with police patrol cars during an attempted escape.

According to a statement from the Local Police of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, shared via social media platform X (formerly Twitter), the driver of the stolen car sped away before crashing into a patrol belonging to the National Police, and another from the GOIA-UE unit, which is a specialised tactical unit trained to respond to high-risk or complex situations.

The impact caused damage to several vehicles and left two police officers with injuries. Authorities confirmed that one person has been arrested in connection with the incident.

An investigation is underway, and police have not yet released further details about the suspect or the motive behind the theft.

Stealing a vehicle and injuring two police officers could face serious legal consequences under Spanish law. Charges may include vehicle theft, reckless driving, endangering public safety, and assaulting law enforcement officers. If convicted, the suspect could face several years in prison, particularly if the injuries to the officers are deemed significant.
