The Emergency Services Coordination Centre (CECOES) have reported the first ‘proper’ outbreak of forest fire this year in Tenerife, in the Barranco Los Dornajos in the El Lance neighbourhood of Los Realejos.
An alert was received at around 8:00am this morning (Friday) informing them of an outbreak, which has affected an area of scrub with brambles, ferns and heather on abandoned farmland, that has led to the evacuation of a barn of animals near the fire.
The Insular Operational Coordination Centre (CECOPIN) have said that the blaze is considered to be ‘stabilised’, although not yet extinguished, thanks to the rapid and effective response of the services deployed.
BRIFOR are leading the operation to control the fire as soon as possible by land and air means using: 5 BRIVAN units, 1 VAMTAC unit, 4 fire trucks from the Tenerife Fire Brigade, 2 helicopters from the Cabildo, and 1 from the Government of the Canary Islands.
The Tenerife Cabildo continues to request the public to take extreme precautions in these current hot and dry conditions.
