Passengers and crew experienced a frightening moment at Gran Canaria Airport yesterday afternoon, Sunday, after a CanaryFly aircraft suffered a technical fault with its front landing gear, causing the nose of the plane to rest on the tarmac.
Fortunately, no injuries were reported, and airport operations continued without disruption.
The incident occurred during ground operations at a parking stand on the airport’s platform area, after boarding had been completed. According to a statement from the airline, the nose gear collapsed just as the aircraft began startup procedures ahead of taxiing to the runway.
Emergency services were immediately activated as a precaution, and images from the scene show the aircraft tilted forward, with its nose resting on the ground, an unusual and dramatic sight.
Despite the alarming appearance, airport operator AENA confirmed that the incident did not affect the day’s scheduled flights. The airline also emphasised that the fault was an isolated technical issue.
All passengers were safely evacuated and later accommodated on alternative flights operated by CanaryFly. The company has launched an internal investigation in cooperation with aviation safety authorities to determine the root cause of the mechanical failure.
