'Salvar La Tejita' urges the Cabildo to cancel the Motor Circuit and buy the La Tejita plot

'Salvar La Tejita' has sent an open letter to the president of the Tenerife Cabildo, Rosa Dávila, requesting the cancellation of the Motor Circuit project, which has already been allocated 44 million euros, and urging part of the funds to be allocated towards purchasing the plot where the La Tejita hotel is being built.

"This initiative would return one of Tenerife's most emblematic landscapes to the people, prevent an environmental catastrophe, and address one of the main demands of various groups and protesters.”

“It would be a significant step to demonstrate that the politicians of the island, from different administrations and political parties, have empathy, common sense, and the will to coordinate, collaborate, and solve problems," they stated in the letter.

The association highlights that the Ombudsman has warned that the race track project "fails to comply with numerous mandatory requirements," leaving it "in limbo," and proceeding with it would promote a nearly 50 million euro project of public funds "that does not comply with current legislation."

"Moreover, it must be taken into account that the list of requirements to be addressed would entail a radical increase in the project's cost, potentially rendering it unfeasible. The majority of citizens never requested a Motor Circuit, will never use it, and do not want their money spent on it," they point out.

Therefore, they urge the president to “take the initiative and assist the Granadilla Town Council in purchasing the La Tejita hotel plot and incorporating it into the Montaña Roja Natural Reserve.”

"Actions speak louder than words, and you have the opportunity to act for the benefit of the people you represent. We await your response," concludes the letter.
