Two hooded men armed with machetes robbed a supermarket in Gran Canaria on Tuesday evening, escaping with all the money taken at the tills. The incident happened at around 6.30pm at the Hermanos Rogelio supermarket in Tafira Alta, in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.

Local Police were called to the shop following the armed robbery, which has added to growing concerns about public safety in the area. No injuries were reported during the incident.

Residents have since voiced frustration over what they describe as increasing insecurity in parts of the city. One person said on social media that incidents like this “sadly no longer come as a surprise”, claiming they create fear and concern among both neighbours and business owners.

The robbery comes just weeks after another violent robbery in Telde, where 11 masked men stormed a gaming arcade in the Las Remudas area armed with sledgehammers and crowbars. The group reportedly targeted cash machines inside the premises.

Police have not yet confirmed whether the two incidents are linked, and no arrests have been announced at the time of publication.
