Robber snatches woman’s bag containing 18,000 euros in cash in Los Cristianos

The National Police have arrested a 21-year-old man of Spanish nationality but with Hungarian origin, accused of stealing a bag from a German woman in Los Cristianos in the south of Tenerife, that contained 18,639 euros.

Officers from the National Police were dispatched to the scene of the crime after a 091 call reporting the robbery, and when they got there witnesses told them that the robber was hiding in a nearby hotel complex.

The 21-year-old decided to dump the bag and flee when he saw the officers, jumping over various walls of the complex, obviously not realising how much money was in the bag!

A short time later, agents managed to intercept him inside the complex, and arrested him, and then took him to the police station, together with the bag he had stolen, which they collected.

On closer inspection, the bag contained 18,639 euros in cash, a mobile phone, identification documentation, and a set of keys owned by a German woman who, in the statement given at the police station, provided a description that matched the detainee.

Subsequently, the detainee was made passed to the competent judicial authority for sentencing and the effects were returned to their rightful owner.
