A 53-year-old man has been arrested in Puerto del Rosario after allegedly carrying out around 30 break-ins targeting parked vehicles across the town. Police say the suspect was linked to a series of thefts during March and April.

According to the National Police, officers launched an investigation after a noticeable rise in reports of vehicles being broken into in different parts of the municipality. The suspect, reportedly known locally by the nickname “The Argentine”, is accused of mainly operating at night and sometimes carrying out several thefts in a single evening.

Investigators say the man smashed car windows to gain access to vehicles before stealing valuables left inside. Police highlighted one incident on 6th May in which the suspect allegedly hid nearby after breaking into a car and later robbed the owner of cash when she returned to the vehicle.

Officers carried out several overnight operations in an effort to track down the suspect. Security camera footage from areas where the thefts took place was said to be key in identifying him.

Police also discovered a location where numerous stolen items from the vehicles had been stored. Many of the recovered belongings have since been returned to their owners.

The man has now been charged with 30 counts of vehicle break-ins as well as one alleged robbery involving violence or intimidation. He appeared before the court and has been remanded in custody while the investigation continues.
