Several residents in Adeje have been temporarily evacuated after rough seas caused by Storm Therese reached their homes in the coastal area of El Puertito. Adeje Town Hall confirmed that affected residents were offered emergency accommodation at the municipal shelter, although some chose to stay with relatives.

In El Puertito, the seafront promenade has suffered damage due to strong waves, and safety cordons have been put in place to prevent injuries. In El Varadero, La Caleta, part of the promenade has also been closed off, and a bar was temporarily evacuated due to the heavy swell.

The situation is the result of severe coastal conditions linked to Storm Therese, which has particularly affected the south-west of Tenerife.

Acting mayor Epifanio Díaz Hernández visited the area to speak with residents and reassure them. He confirmed that emergency planning includes provisions for evacuation, with temporary accommodation arranged in coordination with the Red Cross and the Cabildo.

Emergency Shelter in El Galeón

The El Galeón sports pavilion in Adeje has been set up as a regional emergency shelter since the start of the weather alert.

  • Initial capacity: 60 people
  • Expanded capacity: 70
  • Current occupancy: 52 people, including two families

The shelter is managed by the Red Cross, and anyone in need can go directly to the facility.

Multiple Incidents Across the Municipality

Emergency services remain active following a number of weather-related incidents across Adeje, including:

  • Fallen trees in Taucho and Costa Adeje
  • A damaged electricity pole in La Quinta
  • Rockfalls on the TF-82 near Los Menores and Tijoco
  • Flooding in a property in La Caleta caused by blocked drainage

Strong winds have also caused debris and obstructions on several roads, particularly in higher areas such as Taucho, La Quinta and Tijoco Alto.

Local authorities continue to coordinate emergency efforts and monitor the situation closely.
