Emergency crews carried out a dramatic rescue operation in Lanzarote after a car became trapped in the sand just metres from the sea, with the rising tide threatening to sweep it away.
The incident happened yesterday (Tuesday) at Playa Los Pocillos beach in Puerto del Carmen, where the vehicle had become partially buried, leaving its front end stuck in the sand and dangerously close to the waterline.
The alert was raised via the Canary Islands emergency coordination centre (CECOES), prompting a rapid response from the Lanzarote Security and Emergency Consortium.
On arrival, crews found the car firmly embedded and at immediate risk from the incoming tide, leaving little time to act.
Using specialised equipment and stabilising supports, emergency workers carefully dug out the vehicle while ensuring it remained secure throughout the operation.
Once freed, the car was moved to a safe location, preventing further damage and avoiding the risk of it being reached by the sea.
No injuries were reported, and the swift intervention ensured the situation was resolved before the tide could cause serious damage.
