Police rush to assist mother in labour as baby is born in a street in south Tenerife

A routine morning shift turned into a life-saving intervention for officers from the Arona Local Police after they helped a woman who went into labour in a street in the south of Tenerife yesterday morning, Tuesday 10th March.
The incident took place on San Martín de Porres in Cabo Blanco, part of the municipality of Arona. Officers were alerted that a local resident had gone into labour in the middle of the street, and as the first responders to arrive at the scene, officers quickly realised the birth was imminent and acted with urgency.
Rapid response from emergency teams
The patrol immediately coordinated efforts to bring medical staff from the Cabo Blanco Health Centre to the exact location where the woman was waiting.
Thanks to the swift response, healthcare professionals were able to assist the delivery with the support of the officers.
According to official sources, the birth took place without complications and was completed successfully. Both the mother and her newborn daughter were reported to be in good health after the delivery.
Transfer to hospital
Once the situation was stabilised, the mother and baby were transported by a medicalised ambulance to the Hospital Universitario Nuestra Señora de Candelaria. There they received further medical checks and postnatal care.
The police force later praised the professionalism and dedication of the officers involved, whose quick thinking helped ensure the unexpected birth ended safely for both mother and child.
