Police raid two Cannabis Clubs in southern Gran Canaria for illegal sale of drugs

The National Police have raided two cannabis clubs operating in the south of Gran Canaria that were selling marijuana and hashish, arresting five people in the process for alleged offences in relation to drug trafficking.

According to a statement issued yesterday (Friday) by the Canary Islands’ High Police Headquarters, the investigation was launched following several complaints filed at the police station, as well as concerns raised by residents and visitors of a shopping centre in the tourist area of Playa del Inglés.

Complainants expressed their frustration over the amount of people visiting the clubs, who blatantly weren’t members, to buy narcotic substances, specifically marijuana and hashish, which were subsequently consumed in public spaces, which goes against the statutes of Cannabis club associations.

Police Investigation and Arrests

After obtaining judicial authorisation, officers carried out raids on both establishments used by the associations. During the operation, five people were arrested, and 2,294 grams of marijuana, 1,215 grams of hashish, €1,500 in cash, two precision scales, and various tools used for preparing and portioning the substances were seized.

The detainees, along with the police reports, have been placed at the disposal of the judicial authority of the San Bartolomé de Tirajana district courts.
