Two men, aged 35 and 24, are under investigation by the Guardia Civil after allegedly stealing €5,000 from a customer at their phone repair shop in Adeje in the south of Tenerife, after illegally transferring the money from the victim’s bank account.

The incident occurred when a female customer left her phone at a shop in Adeje for a minor repair, which has not been named, and two employees of the shop took advantage of the device being unlocked, accessed her online banking app and managed to transfer the money to one of their own accounts.

The theft came to light when the victim noticed the missing funds and reported the incident to the Guardia Civil.

Specialised officers launched an investigation, gathering crucial evidence that led to the identification of the two men, who are residents of Adeje and Arona, and the case has been passed to the Courts in Los Cristianos for further legal proceedings.

In response to the incident, the Guardia Civil has issued a warning to the public about the importance of safeguarding personal information. They advise against sharing online banking passwords and recommend enabling automatic locking features on mobile devices to prevent unauthorized access.

Additionally, users are cautioned against entering private data over public Wi-Fi networks and are advised not to store passwords on their devices.
