The National Police have arrested a 35-year-old man who is accused of stealing, during several visits to the supermarket section of a department store in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, bottles of expensive wine worth 840 euros that he hid in a pushchair when going through the checkout.
The detainee has only admitted to stealing four bottles, one for each visit to the store, two of which cost 60 euros each and the other two cost 360 euros each.
The official police press release details that the man made purchases at the store, but hid a bottle in a cloth bag on the bottom of the pushchair when bending down to place the products from the basket onto the conveyor belt.
The store themselves filed a complaint with the police, after watching CCTV footage of the checkout queues when they realised that the expensive wine had gone missing and spotted him and the police were able to identify him from his card payments.
When arresting the man in question, he admitted to stealing the four bottles, that they had footage of, but only returned three, as he had already drunk one of them.
