Despite continuous warnings from the authorities, a number of people in Tenerife seem to think they are exempt from them and are trying to enter the forest area to take photos of the devastation caused by the fire. Yesterday the government praised the support and attitude of the public, but, unfortunately, there are always some who want to break the rules.
This was commented on by the mayor of El Rosario, Escolástico Gil, on Televisión Canaria who publicly criticized these people after receiving the information from the Guardia Civil at the checkpoints across the island on all access roads to the forest and Teide National Park.
"We ask everyone to respect the advice and recommendations that are given to them from the different authorities and security forces, as they are for the safety of all," he said. The Guardia Civil, Local Police, National Police and the Canarian Police patrol, have repeated over and over again for people to avoid evacuated areas and those burned by fire as it is prohibited to enter.
THE FIRE IS STILL NOT UNDER CONTROL:
The extinguishing teams were able to carry out the continued work to contain the fire during the night, although there were some reactivations in Birmagen, in the municipality of El Rosario, and in various areas of Santa Úrsula, that have been controlled.
The rest of the 90 kilometre perimeter was relatively calm during the night and they hope that the full perimeter will be under control by the end of today (Tuesday) to stop the fire from spreading, although it will not be easy due to its size as it is covering an area of 14,878 hectares in twelve municipalities.
