A 44-year-old man has been arrested at Gran Canaria Airport after Guardia Civil officers discovered 3.7 kilograms of drugs hidden in his suitcase.
He had travelled from Brussels to Gran Canaria for what appeared to be a holiday, but a routine customs check led to his detention.
The arrest took place on 15th February during a routine inspection carried out by the Guardia Civil, in coordination with Customs Officers, who noticed the man displaying suspicious behaviour upon arrival.
Their observations led to a thorough search of his luggage, where they uncovered several concealed packages. Subsequent analysis confirmed they contained 3 kilograms of cocaine and 700 grams of heroin.
Following his arrest, the suspect was charged with drug trafficking offences, categorised under crimes against public health. He was brought before the Court of Instruction in Telde, where a judge ordered his immediate imprisonment.
This successful interception demonstrates the effectiveness of preventive measures implemented by the Guardia Civil and Customs Officers in airports, aimed at detecting and preventing both fiscal and criminal offences.
