A 40-year-old paraglider sustained critical injuries in a serious accident on Tuesday afternoon in Costa Adeje, in the south of Tenerife, according to information from the Canary Islands Emergency Services Coordination Centre (CECOES).
The accident occurred paragliding take-off area in Taucho, a popular site in the municipality of Adeje for paragliders. Firefighters were the first emergency response team to arrive at the scene, where they located and immobilised the injured man on a stretcher.
They then ensured his safe transfer to an ambulance where paramedics were waiting to assess him.
Upon evaluation, they determined the man had suffered severe multiple traumas, so after being stabilised on-site, he was urgently taken to Hospiten Sur Hospital, where he was admitted in critical condition.
Local Police officers also attended the scene, assisting emergency crews in their efforts to manage the situation. Investigations into the circumstances surrounding the accident are ongoing.
The incident highlights the risks associated with adventure sports such as paragliding, which, while thrilling, require careful safety precautions.
