Visitors now have a new way to enjoy Gran Canaria’s southern coast. There is a brand-new viewing platform overlooking Playa del Inglés and the Maspalomas Dunes that lets you enjoy a peaceful view over one of the island’s best-known landscapes.

The Maspalomas Dunes are one of Gran Canaria’s most recognisable natural landmarks, shaped by centuries of shifting winds, featuring a striking combination of golden sand hills, coastal scrub, and freshwater lagoons. The dunes are not only stunning to look at, but also home to migrating birds and unique local plants, making them an important part of the island’s natural environment.

Situated between the Anexo II Shopping Centre and the Costa Canaria promenade, the new viewpoint has been designed to enhance the visitor experience without disrupting the area’s natural charm.

It stretches 250 metres and includes benches, lighting, and panoramic vantage points to gaze out across Playa del Inglés, Maspalomas, El Veril, and the Atlantic horizon.

Around 500 plants surround the new viewing platform, many of them native to Gran Canaria. These include local species such as dragon trees, wild olive trees, cardoons, and tabaibas, which help the lookout to blend naturally into the surrounding landscape.

The view from the platform is unforgettable. Whether you're arriving from the airport or driving down from Las Palmas, there comes a moment when the landscape opens up with the golden dunes stretching out to meet the Atlantic Ocean. It’s a scene that has become one of Gran Canaria’s most iconic and beloved sights.

The location has even inspired local music. In Néstor Álamo’s famous song “Maspalomas y tú”, he describes a beach in the south, bathed in sunshine, with golden sands and a dazzling ocean, exactly what this new lookout captures.

The platform also adds something special to the coastal walk from San Agustín to Playa del Inglés and offers a perfect place to pause and take in the views. At sunrise or sunset, it is especially beautiful as the dunes glow with golden light.

Whether you're starting your day or winding it down, this new mirador is the perfect place to relax and take it all in. It invites both tourists and locals to slow down, enjoy the scenery, and connect with the natural beauty that makes Gran Canaria so special.
