New Carnival themed playground underway in Santa Cruz

A colourful and imaginative new playground is taking shape in Santa Cruz, where construction has officially begun on Mamá Loli Park. This vibrant play space, themed around the city's iconic Carnival, is part of Santa Cruz’s ongoing efforts to create engaging and inclusive environments for children and families.

Located next to the Plaza María Dolores Santana, the park covers approximately 478 square metres and represents an investment of over €153,000 by the City Council. The project is expected to take three months to complete and will introduce fourteen Carnival-inspired play modules that promise hours of entertainment for young visitors.

Among the highlights are The House of Murgas, a playful homage to the city’s iconic satirical musical groups, and The Float and Passageway, a structure designed to resemble the elaborate parade floats seen during Carnival celebrations.

Other unique features include the Carnival Chicharro, a tribute to a well-known local symbol, and a whimsical Carnival Carousel. The playground will also feature interactive panels to encourage learning, creativity, and sensory play.

“This playground will be a safe and joyful space for children to play and grow,” said Santa Cruz Mayor José Manuel Bermúdez. “It’s unique Carnival theme reflects the soul of our city. We’re proud to continue investing in accessible and modern public spaces for every neighbourhood.”

The Councillor for Public Services, Carlos Tarife, emphasised the park’s inclusive and family-friendly design. Shaded areas will protect children from the sun, while benches and litter bins will ensure a clean and comfortable experience for families. Safety remains a central focus, with a continuous rubber pavement surface that is level with nearby pedestrian paths, improving accessibility and reducing trip hazards.

Mamá Loli Park is poised to become a much-loved addition to Santa Cruz, blending the festive spirit of Carnival with safe, imaginative play. The city hopes it will soon be a cherished spot for children and their families.
