Motorcyclist throws away bag containing 50 grams of cocaine to avoid police

A police operation in Puerto Santiago resulted in the arrest of a motorcyclist from Granadilla de Abona who, upon noticing a police checkpoint, attempted to throw a bag containing cocaine into bushes at the side of the road.

Guardia Civil Officers quickly detained the suspect, who was already subject to an active arrest warrant issued by a court in Las Palmas.

The suspect, wanted on multiple charges, now faces additional accusations related to public health offences, document forgery, and motor vehicle theft. The incident happened during a routine checkpoint of vehicles in Puerto Santiago.

Upon seeing the police, the suspect tried sudden “evasive manoeuvres”, attempting to bypass the checkpoint and get rid of a suspicious bag, later confirmed by officers to contain 50 grams of cocaine, intensifying the legal implications of his arrest.

During the ensuing investigation, officers discovered that the motorcycle had altered number plates and was registered as stolen under the rightful owner’s record. Furthermore, the suspect lacked a valid driver’s license.

The detainee was transferred to the Arona Guard Court, where he will face charges. The quick response by officers not only prevented potential traffic accidents but also highlights the importance of police vigilance in public safety efforts.
