A 68-year-old motorcyclist has died following a crash on a road in northern Gran Canaria, causing severe traffic delays in the area. The incident happened on Thursday afternoon on the GC-291 in Santa María de Guía.

Emergency services were alerted just after 1:00pm yesterday (Friday) when a number of callers reported a motorcycle accident on the stretch of road near the Cenobio de Valerón, heading towards Las Palmas. The crash led to heavy congestion as crews worked to clear the area.

According to responders, the rider was thrown from the motorcycle on impact and landed in a nearby area of dense bushes, which made initial access more difficult for emergency teams.

Paramedics from the Canary Islands emergency service attended the accident alongside Guardia Civil officers. Despite their efforts, the man had suffered injuries incompatible with life and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Guardia Civil has launched an investigation to establish the exact circumstances of the crash, including the condition of the road and any contributing factors.
