A Local Police officer in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria has been injured after being dragged by a motorcyclist who fled at high speed through Jinámar, putting pedestrians at risk. The suspect was later identified after a dangerous pursuit through busy streets.
The incident happened yesterday morning (Sunday) on the Rambla de La Concepción, when officers on patrol spotted two motorcyclists riding side by side. When police signalled for them to stop, one complied, but the other accelerated and fled.
According to the police report, the rider drove recklessly at high speed, weaving between vehicles and ignoring public safety. The chase escalated when he mounted a pedestrian crossing, forcing several people, including children leaving a nearby football ground, to move out of the way.
Officers were eventually forced to continue the pursuit on foot due to traffic. One officer managed to catch up and grab the rear of the motorbike, ordering the rider to stop. Instead, the suspect accelerated again, dragging the officer along the road before he fell and suffered injuries to his hands, as well as damage to his uniform.
The motorcyclist managed to escape and was lost from sight near Calle Arjona Umpiérrez. However, police later identified him as the alleged driver.
Investigators confirmed the suspect did not hold a valid driving licence, and the motorbike had no insurance and had not passed its mandatory roadworthiness inspection.
