Mother and son kidnapped in Gran Canaria are freed after police pressure

The National Police have confirmed the successful release of a mother and her 19-year-old son, who were allegedly kidnapped from a luxury residence in El Salobre, in the south of Gran Canaria, as part of a dispute between rival drug gangs.

According to a police statement issued to the media this afternoon, both hostages are “safe and unharmed” following an operation in which “police pressure” was key to securing their release.

The National Police have confirmed that the investigation remains ongoing, and further details will be provided in an official statement at the appropriate time.

Local media reports, cited by Europa Press, suggest that the alleged kidnapping is linked to a dispute between drug-trafficking gangs targeting the woman’s partner and father of the two victims.

It is believed that several “foreign mercenaries” entered the family home and took the woman and her son against their will.

A relative reportedly raised the alarm on Thursday afternoon after being unable to contact them, fearing something may have happened.
