The National Police have arrested over ten people in an early morning raid on Monday, 11th August, targeting drug trafficking in the central neighbourhood of Arenales in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. The operation also extended to other parts of the island.
According to the police, the operation was aimed at tackling ongoing social problems in parts of Arenales, where drug-related activity has become a major concern for local residents.
The main intervention took place on Calle Molino de Viento, a street in the heart of the neighbourhood, and involved coordinated raids at multiple locations.
During the operation, officers carried out seven searches of residential properties, seizing various quantities of illegal drugs. The raids resulted in the detention of more than ten people believed to be linked to the supply and distribution of narcotics.
The National Police operation was supported by the Local Police, and authorities have confirmed that the case remains under a secrecy order while investigations continue.
The Arenales district, once a bustling and central part of the city, has in recent years been described by residents as suffering from neglect, with rising levels of crime, drug activity, and prostitution. Police say they will maintain a strong presence in the area to reassure the public and deter further criminal activity.
