The Tenerife Cabildo has announced more scheduled roadworks that will affect traffic on the TF-1 motorway and the TF-65 road in the south of the island, starting tomorrow night, Sunday.

These works are part of a broader effort to improve road safety and infrastructure on one of the island’s busiest routes.

Partial Closure Between Las Chafiras and Granadilla

The primary works will take place on the TF-1 between kilometre points 57 and 62, the stretch from Las Chafiras to Granadilla, by Tenerife South Airport, and will begin at 10:00pm on Sunday 3rd August, continuing overnight until 6:00am on Monday 4th August. During this period, the left-hand lane heading towards Santa Cruz will be closed.

With more than 70,000 vehicles using this stretch daily, the Cabildo is urging drivers to exercise extreme caution, follow all signage, and comply with instructions from road personnel to ensure safety throughout the intervention.

What's Being Done?

The TF-1 works are not limited to resurfacing. The project includes a series of improvements such as:

  • Installation of rumble strips
  • Heightening of barriers at roadside and in the central reservation
  • Installation of road studs
  • Repainting of road markings
  • Placement of rigid concrete barriers
  • Installation of safety rails on bridges

These upgrades are aimed at enhancing visibility, improving vehicle containment systems, and reducing accident risks along this critical section of the motorway.

TF-65: Roadworks on Monday Morning

In addition to the TF-1 works, maintenance will also be carried out on the TF-65 road in Granadilla de Abona on Monday 4th August, between 7:00am and 3:00pm, affecting the section from kilometre 2 to 3.

A temporary alternating lane closure will be in place to allow for resurfacing work, and drivers are once again asked to pay close attention to temporary signage and traffic signals during this time.

Travel Tips for Residents and Tourists

  • Plan alternative routes in advance, especially if you’re travelling between the south of the island and Santa Cruz overnight on Sunday.
  • Expect delays during the Monday morning roadworks on the TF-65.
  • Allow extra travel time if you're heading to the airport, staying in nearby tourist zones, or commuting during affected hours.

The Cabildo has stressed the importance of these roadworks, noting that they are essential to keeping infrastructure in top condition and improving safety on some of Tenerife’s most heavily used roads.
