Maspalomas, located on the south coast of Gran Canaria, is set to increase its accommodation offerings with the conversion of the Grupotel Jardín del Sol apartment complex into a four-star hotel. The transformation will be carried out under a new brand, Sholeo, part of the Canarian Hospitality Group, following an investment of €4.8 million.
This ambitious project, spearheaded by Acosta Matos Investments, aims to upgrade the current two-key apartment complex into a luxury hotel. The existing facility, located in Playa del Inglés, will undergo a complete overhaul, with construction and transition set to take four years to complete.
Currently offering 108 accommodation units with a capacity for 324 guests, the complex will be reconfigured to provide 336 guest beds. In addition to the interior renovations, new common areas will be developed, while the exterior spaces, including the pools and sports facilities, will be fully refurbished. A newly designed commercial area and multinational event spaces for leisure activities are also part of the project.
Davinia Ramírez, Municipal Councillor for Urban Planning, explained the significance of the project, stating, “The approval of this licence marks a key step in the City Council's commitment to modernising our tourism infrastructure.”
Deputy Mayor, Alejandro Marichal, added that the renovation not only enhances the local tourism sector but also aligns with the municipality's broader strategy of upgrading existing accommodations to position ‘Maspalomas Costa Canaria’ as a premier, high-quality destination.
